  • Aliso Ranch

Aliso Ranch has the history of being the longest working cattle ranch in Ventura County. The orchards began when Rodney H. Smith, W.D. Hobson’s great grandson, brought his scientific approach to the family business. While most farmers would have thought Aliso Ranch was too cold for lemons, Mr. Smith took temperature readings for several years on a flat pasture area in the Aliso Ranch and determined lemons could grow there. The first lemon orchard was planted in 1968 in Peppertree Canyon with additional lemon trees planted in Aliso Canyon in 1969 and as the family acquired more land, Williams Canyon was added to Aliso Ranch. As of 2021, Alisa Ranch is a producer of lemons, avocados, coffee and passion fruit.
